Lights, Camera, Perry?

Robert Downey Jr. and Warner Brothers have announced that they are planning a new Perry Mason film. The project is in the early stages but they want to go back to the harder-edged Perry of the 1930s. This is the same team that have produced the two Sherlock Holmes films featuring Downey.

Murder Must Advertise - constantly ...

I'm also pleased to announce that I've received the rights back to Intent to Sell. An updated version of Intent to Sell will be out momentarily with expanded information on social media and other publishing trends. I'll have more news soon about the new home for the only book that helps genre authors sell more copies of their books. Plus be sure to read my marketing column in The Third Degree, MWA's newsletter.

Next up...

I'm thrilled to be able to announce that my next biography will be that of noted author, critic, anthologist and editor Ellery Queen! I'll be traveling around quite a bit to collection information on the fascinating cousins who wrote under this pseudonym.

New Novel Out in 2012...

I just finished the 10 year anniversary giveaway for The Ambush of My Name, my first mystery novel. In celebration of that, I'm going to be publishing a third US Grant mystery novel before the end of the year. It's one of my summer projects which include nearing completion on the biography, possibly starting a new biography, a new novel, and some short stories for fun.

What am I currently writing...

I'm polishing the draft of the Gardner biography. I'm going in now and adding information that I've found since the finish of the draft and the information that people have kindly sent me since then.

On the road again....

Check my signing calendar. I'll be at Sleuthfest in March and Bouchercon in Cleveland. I'm looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones...

My very own Canine Crime...

Meet Tuppence (aka Penny) who is the newest addition to the family. She's named after Tuppence Beresford, a character in the Tommy and Tuppence stories by Agatha Christie. She gets into almost as much trouble as her namesake.....

Marketing tip of the month: The updated Murder Must Advertise website has a number of sources on the latest ways to market your book. I wrote a guide for Facebook Etiquette for MWA's The Third Degree. A new version of Intent to Sell: Marketing the Genre Novel will be out in Spring 2012. It's the only book focusing on the best marketing techniques for selling genre fiction. MMA has recently added both a Facebook Group forum for comments and discussion and its first blog as well.

Be sure to check out my posts on Little Blog of Murder, the blog for 5 Ohio authors and booksellers.
